Since we are on the subject of farming and ranching operations, particularly those small organic operations, I thought I'd show you guys a new video I made to highlight one case where we put an easement on a local rancher's land. Because easements can make the difference between keeping the land or having to sell it off, this is something that may help one of you or someone you know. There are Land Trusts all over the country and indeed worldwide. Most reputable Trusts can be found on the Land Trust Alliance webpage and the best are Accredited. Since none of you are in my area I can feel ok about posting this without feeling like I am soliciting. I just want others to know about these opportunities so that they may have a shot at maintaining their farming/ranching activities and keeping the land in production. If you would like more detailed information about the nuts and bolts of easements, I would be happy to link you to our website but since this is not an advertisement for my organization I will send the link to you in a message.
Yup and thanks. It was my first video and I learned A LOT from it. I'm rather excited to created more videos on the series know that I know the do's and dont's of video creation. I filmed and edited it. The music was donated by Errol Previde. Because this was part of a class exercise, we were required to keep it very simple. I used Adobe Premeire Elements to edit the video and most of the filming was done on a Canon VIXIA HV30.
Wow, that's excellent for the first one! Voice dubbing, titles, soundtrack, fade in/out transitions, the works. I also use a Canon Vixia, but the HG21 I think it is. Nice little camera, and a good price. But doesn't look impressive like the ones the pros use. Then I use Final Cut Express on the Mac to put it all together. Haven't made a video for the prairie group for a few years now, weddings of relatives and family trips have been keeping me busy in that area. None of it pays, unfortunately.
I hear ya! Learning a new program was tough. I had major issues with storing material on our server instead of the editing computer. This was a major no-no and I will not make the same mistake again. Also, Youtube induced errors with audio sync when trying to upload the 1080p version of the video so I cut it down to 720p so I could meet my deadline. Eventually I will try to get the 1080p version up but the difference is minimal. You really should try to put together a video for your group. It can make a big difference in public interest which translates into donations and volunteers.
Great work! The Placer County Conservation Plan got a nice writeup on the opinion page of the 4 Feb Sac Bee on page A12. What makes this all the more remarkable is that Placer county is a conservative county. It has a higher percentage of Republicans than Texas.
Being a Placer County resident you have a good grasp on how incredible this achievement was. Fortunately at least half of those conservative republicans have a soft spot for agriculture which helped this deal. What I find funny is that no matter how much of a win win deal this was, there were plenty of tin-foil hat conspiracy theorists out there who were accusing us of land grabbing in an effort to assert dominance in a power struggle and stick it to tax payers. Sometimes I wonder how those bloggers can suffer to live in a world that is out to get them at every turn. lol
