While opening the glove box to change the air filter, the air piston (black tab to the right) set itself free. As a result, the glove box also came loose and separated itseld. I think I can put back the box with the black tab but not sure the orientation of the piston behind. On what does the base of the piston rest - the base is the large diameter region? Or does it just stay free behind the glove box?
That sucker is a pain in the butt. I messed up the first time and it cost me having to repair the entire lower box. I manager to get the box in cattywampus and it got jammed. Had to yank it out causing the catches to break off. The piston is situated upside down with the larger end up. I will try to take a pic. [edit] can't get in there to take a picture but I think the manual has a picture.
OK;thanks. The manual says the glove box does come off, which is what happened in my case. I did manage to put the glove box on; the piston though appears to be free-standing inside. I attached the black tab (damper as the manual calls it). In addition, there are two black tabs extending and attached to the piston side; one of which fits into a slot. The other one at the back end (in line with the larger diameter face of the piston) - i could not find a slot. So, the piston end is free standing - hope this is the correct way. Like you say, it is hard to take a pic.
There is a tab on the dash side that the damper fits onto and tab on the glove box. It just takes a lot of coordination to get it back together.
