Does anyone know how I can go about installing a switch that will let me turn the passenger-side airbag on and off? My car is a 2010 Prius II. Thanks in advance.
Could you elaborate on what you're trying to accomplish? If there's nobody in the front passenger seat, that airbag is turned off automatically (as the annoying light on the dash indicates). I also believe it's a smart airbag system, meaning there's a seat sensor that regulates the airbag force based on occupant weight.
Does the US model have a switch to turn the passenger airbag on and off? My UK spec has one on the side of the dash between the glove box and the door hinge. Oh what a fool I am - you have the gen 2. Sorry
Apologies to my friend on the other side of the Pond - it is a brand new Prius, Gen III. It's trim level is the base level, called "Prius II" in the States. I know that I need to fax a form to the Federal Hovernment to install the switch (which is stupid), an I think it has to be a key-operated switch (do we really need this much government?). Sigh. At any rate, I know there's a weight sensor, so I should be able to install a switch in-line with the sensor quite easily.
I'm not aware of any official way to install the switch on a US version Prius. But it's a good bet that installing the UK version switch on a US car would work. It worked with the EV switch on Gen2s.
