Almost didn't take off from a stop light.

2010 189k. This week has been acting odd. Today takes the cake. I was at a red light and had full battery and max ac, engine was on and idle up. I turn off ac to listen to it as I've been trying to record this stuff and may compile a video. 35 seconds later I notice I have 2 bars left of HVB. Engine never shut off. I then turn the AC back on as traffic starts to move and I get on the gas to go and it barely moves. I was like pumping the gas as it would spool up slightly and not grab and then as I let off it would grab. Did that until I got up to speed/it stated grabbing. I actually turned on my hazards for a couple seconds, not knowing if it would actually accelerate enough.

I've been making notes of my speed acceleration as well. It takes 18 seconds to get up to 50mph when it's hesitating, not quite revving up high enough and or grabbing. 0-60 time is supposed to be about 12mph. I've mentioned it here before, but around 50-55mph I have "v-tec" where it starts to rev more and grab more. Lately it's been all over the place.

I've got Dr Prius, but I've got a wifi dongle. It's problematic to do the test. The first test was around 25% and the 2nd that I just did was 34.54%. I tried to do it a hour earlier and it kept skipping to the 2nd step. Engine was still on and HVB was not fully charged. Also when I shift to R, it crashes the dongle or something. So I do it in park, lights and AC.

The other test said block 1 was possibly bad, but looking at the graph I had 5 center blocks that I thought were weak. HVB seems to hold 120F for the most part. Have seen it at 134F, didn't seem like the fan was racing or anything. It's not blocked and is flowing. Just seems like the car doesn't want to run it very fast.

Scan gauge 2 said it was 100, but I thought I seen it max 60 before and thought it was Celsius. Dr Prius was 10-20F higher, if SG2 is F. I don't use my SG2 anymore because it messes with my remote start.

Front fans seem to work for the AC, seen fluid moving in both reservoir. I've never cleaned the EGR pipe, cooler or intake. I was panning to try and do it this 4th July weekend. Worried it won't make it. Around 120k-140k I thought I saw a Toyota service record saying they cleaned something relating to the EGR.

Any time I plug into the car, it seems to act alright. Checked it two times in the morning on Sat/Sun and no morning limp. Monday comes around with no plug and it's limping slightly. Which it's done for the last 2 years, in the least.

I know this is long but thoughts? Tackle EGR pipe/cooler + intake? and or HVB cells? Something else? Today was even cooler than last week.

My thoughts on a 2010 is that it's 12 years old and you could very much be experiencing a failure in the hybrid battery. When the battery is down to 2 bars, you won't have much acceleration power. I see a new battery in your near future.

You have to be really careful with these higher mileage gen 3 cars. They have 3 common failures and all 3 will cost a lot of money. Once you go down this rabbit hole and start repairing 1 items, the other 2 items won't be too far behind.

    1. HV battery failure
    2. Brake Accumulator/actuator failure
    3. Head gasket failure.

I have a gen 3 the head gasket was done 50,000 miles ago. I am at 200,000 on the clock I don’t know when the HV battery or brake accumulator will go. But both are healthy for now.

Pretty classic hv battery failure. Fast discharge at a light with the ac on. Most likely there was no battery hp contribution by the time you started moving. These engines are really underpowered at low speeds without the battery helping. You should be looking for a new battery asap.
