The UK is going to a referendum to see if we want to replace our 'first past the post' voting system with the AV Alternative Vote system as used in Australia. Most of the UK parties and politicians are against it (so one wonders why we need or want a referendum) and to me that means it is probably a good system to go for. BBC News - Alternative vote: The Australian experience Are there any Aussies or anyone with any knowledge of this system who thinks there are pros or cons to it? In one way it stops safe seats. Or should we just stick with the existing system? Would it work or be beneficial in the US too?
The U.S. definitely needs a new voting system. With our current "winner take all" system it virtually guarantees that only the two major parties have power. Voting for any third party is an automatic waste of a vote, other than making a futile statement. Tom
