that has had interminable delays in connecting to this forum? And then ridiculous slowness in switching threads? If I am, then I will try to check some settings (or have someone check them), but the Home Depot ad was bad enough, now the whole forum just seems to be mired in molasses. It has made me come a lot less often than I used to, and I am sure I have missed some good stuff. I think it started a few weeks ago and has continued to date.
i was having the same problem with my 3 year old laptop. then, the motherboard died. $500. to fix vs $750. for a new dell vostro 17". went for the new one and speeds are much better. still slow compared to other places but much much better.
Thanks. I didn't even know this particular area existed. I can see now that there are many people who have experienced this. It is so annoying at times that the only alternative is to go away.
You are not the only one. That Home Depot ad is so annoying that I'm ready to switch to Loew's! I did find that things got better after I switched from IE* to Google Chrome.
(Firefox + )NoScript = speed and security. I don't deliberately block ads, just unnecessary scripting and bandwidth hogs.
This is the slowest site I regularly visit, and occasionally it is much worse. I have not noticed this recently, but sometimes it's just sporadic. I recommend Firefox + AdBlock Plus. I block all ads. Then I contribute to sites I use regularly, if they have a contribute button.
Try it on a Sat modem during prime time sometime. I don't usually bother. That said, we have gotten so spoiled as a nation, that if it doesn't happen "yesterday" it is too slow! Example, the economic recovery from the previous admin. We are convinced that "it hasn't worked" ergo we are going to throw the baby out with the bath water!
I have a proposal for you all with slow speed (if you depend on Windows Internet Explorer). Download the portable versions of Opera Opera@USB : EN : download your free version of mobile Opera: or Firefox Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives. Compare their speed with the browser you use now. If it is not satisfactory then you can delete them without any traces left behind!
I saw this thread and made a couple of changes yesterday. Let me know if things seem any faster. Otherwise I guess it's time to change servers... again.
