I am thinking of installing amp in 2010 prius. Question how is the 12v battery keeps its charge. I am assuming the amp will be drawing power from 12v battery. When the engine kicks on during driving it is charging the hybrid battery. I am afraid of killing the power from 12v battery.
The 12V battery is fed from the hybrid battery. As long as the car is in it's "Ready" state, it would be impossible to run the 12V battery out of power.
Well the fuse between the 12 volt battery and the Inverter is 100 Amps, so if he goes crazy, he could COULD run out of power in ready. (and go deaf)
would adding a second battery help the situation? I'm thinking of upgrading the battery or just running 2 batteries.
The only time it would help you would be if you were running the stereo with the car in "accessory" mode. An extra battery would allow you to go longer before the car dies. There's no real point to this though, just put the car in "ready" mode, and it will pull from the traction battery as needed (and cycle the engine on when the traction battery gets low)
OK that's what I gathered from info on this board, but then the whole issue with the inverter only being 100 amps made me think since My sub amp will pull well over 100 amps.
