Heard CarTalk on PBS this morning, a fellow named Andy with a Prius called in complaining that his wife turned the wheels of his new Prius while at a stop, not while moving, possibly damaging his car. Andy wanted to get Click and Clack's read on the situation, they sort of sided with him, but then called up his wife (Katy?) with Andy on the phone, suddenly switched to her side and told her that it was ok to do it, it wasn't all that big of a deal. She said Andy was a little anal, and they all had a good laugh. Pretty funny. Just wondering if Andy posts here? Given most of the posts here at PC and the way we baby our cars, it could be pretty much any of the 10,000 of us!
I heard the show today (060422) too, but it was a repeat. Andy did a great, sniveling "Yes, Dear" when they were all on air. Clap and Clunk at their best.
So what was the supposed damage from turning your wheels at rest? Wearing a flat spot on the tires? Causing the wheel bearing grease to void?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(RonH @ Apr 23 2006, 04:23 AM) </div> There is scuffing off the tires on the ground. There is also extra stress on some of the steering system that is not power assisted (don't remember the parts they talked about).
