I have also noticed that on longer drives, I miss having a well positioned armrest for my left elbow. So today I put the finishing touches on my version. It's not real pretty but it seems to work well. My wife even volunteered to go outside and help me with the photoshoot. The hard part was making the "bootheel" that fits into the pocket on the drivers door. After shaping the "bootheel", I glued and used countersunk screws to attach it to a piece of 3/4" thick X 3" flat pine. I then added approximately 1-1/2" of closed cell polyethylene foam cut from an old pool toy. Wrapped in some gray vinyl I had found in the basement. Very secure when installed. It doesn't move... and requires no tape or other attaching materials. If I don't want to use it.... it just lifts out.
