Anyone else notice?

    Has anyone notice a mesh on the top housing of the engine air filter? Van someone shine light on this and tell me what it does?

    I got this pic from google but it look very similar.

    It is just part of the air filter. Why worry about why it is there ???

    Assuming that the air hits that before it goes through the main filter element, it is a "pre-filter" and is there to catch "big stuff".

    Lol i noticed it exploring the car, its my first prius also notice that its after the main engine filter

    In that case, it probably is there as a "fail safe" incase the paper filter is damaged and pieces start coming loose.
    The trailing "screen" would catch them before entering the engine.
