Anyone know which wire is negative for dome light?

I'm trying to splice into my negative for my dome light for a project. I have a black/white wire here on the large connector and a black wire on the small connector (no idea what the small connector does as I unplugged it and lights still work)

Anyone know how to find out which wire the negative is?
