My '10 is coming up on 5 yrs. old and a couple of times I have gotten some quirks when starting, have to try more than once when I push the power button. I'm thinking the 12v battery is ready to bite the dust and wondering why one of these won't work. Anyone tried one? UPG 12V 35Ah U1 Deep Cycle AGM Solar Battery Also Replaces 33Ah, 34Ah, 36Ah
I replaced the fob battery last week and haven't had the quirk since, but I just got in from checking the 12v, shows 12.5 with nothing on, when I turn on the lowbeam headlights, the volts drop to 9.3. I'm thinking time to replace?
This battery does not have JIS posts, which will make both installting it and replacing it inconvenient. More importantly, it lacks external venting, which which put your passengers (and you) at risk. If you carry passengers, I strongly encourage AGM (which this is) batteries with an external vent. (what you do to you is not as much my concern)
There is an Optima AGM battery available for these cars. You can get it though autozone and oriellys I think.
It never made sense to me that the Prius aux battery wasn't a deep-cycle type. There is no need for high cranking amps, therefore the short-lived, lead-foam variety used in conventional cars makes no sense. My new car arrived with a damaged 12V aux battery, due to having been discharged a few times in the showroom. It cost me needless inconvenience.
That's one reason the UB12350 looks attractive, plenty of amp rating, deep cycle and AGM, can be used on any position. At less than half the price of the Optima or others, I'll give it a shot, there's a vent right beside the original battery.
