I have a new 2015 Prius four (also a 2012 Prius v) and was wondering if anyone knew if the JBL speakers are riveted into place like the standard stock speakers? I'm considering dynamating the doors in the future (when there isn't 5 feet of snow on the ground), and just curious if I could pull the speakers out easily to get behind them. I posted this question over in the Prius audio forum a couple weeks ago but no responses yet, so I thought I'd give it a try here. Thanks
I'm pretty sure they are riveted, like all the previous years. It's fairly easy to get behind the speakers without removing them. There's a thin, plastic moisture barrier, covering the center part of the door. By removing it, you can access the area behind the speakers.
Thanks sfprankster, I could only find pictures of the stock speakers but not the JBLs, good to know its easy to get behind. Can't wait to get rid of all this snow so I can acutally do something with the new car!
Here's a couple of pics of the moisture barrier and you can see the access. The front is fairly tight, but there's enough room to reach inside. Front: Rear:
Thanks for those pics, and great/impressive work on all of those mods. Do you know if the big styrofoam in the front door is just bolted on/easily removable as well? Or is it glued down or something else? Thanks again
If I remember correctly, it's a combination of two or three bolts and glue holding the foam. I left it alone and added dampening to the interior of the door only. I've seen youtube videos where it snapped when the foam was yanked out. This is the rear door and you can see two bolts. Front also has a pair of bolts visible in this picture.
