At a dealership. Don't know if this is normal or not.

(This is a copy of a post I made on reddit, I was really hoping I could get some better advice from the horse's mouth here)

I was at a dealership that wants $25,822 for a 2023 Prius LE. It's been in a "moderate" accident involving the front right bumper, but no damage to the frame.

I test drove it, and the yellow parking sensor light was always on on the left on the screen infront of the steering wheel. It also made no noise whatsoever, and both I and the dealer tried to turn it on, it wouldn't. We could go into the settings by holding OK, but not turn it on, despite going through the manuals. Does this mean that there's a problem with the sensor, or did the trim just not come with it?

Also, it says on the brochure that the Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB) is an option you can have with the trim for $35. Can you install it afterwards? It didn't seem to come with it and the rear camera didn't shift the trajectory of the vehicle, it was static.

These are some features that I really want to be in the deal, and I really appreciate any advice or knowledge. I do see myself getting this car, but maybe not if these two issues can't be fixed easily if at all.

I can't see why these issues can't be easily repairable. Not understanding what's wrong, doesn't mean it's a big or unfixable problem.

Are you sure the base model your looking at has those options installed as standard equipment you want??
IMHO; I wouldn't buy a car from that dealership, since apparently it passed their used car inspection with all those issues. Besides, that price is only a few thousand discount from a brand new with zero miles and no accidents.

    Just saying....

Ask for the report of an OBD2 scanner or if you have a complete one, scan the yourself and come back to us with the codes.
Without that, it is very risking ...

Biomed expressed my view on whether buying a damaged Prius on which the feature you want isn't working.

If one of the warning lights is always on, it probably came with that feature.

If this is a Toyota dealer, you could offer to buy after the car is fixed and warrantied for that repair. If it's not a Toyota dealership, get into the starting blocks and sprint away from it.

The yellow light means the Intuitive Parking Assist system is disabled for some reason. And if it's on, that means the car came with the feature but something is now wrong with it.

It could be a faulty sensor(maybe an original sensor damaged in the accident or during the repair; or maybe a crappy aftermarket sensor the car doesn't like), could be damaged wiring, could be they didn't recalibrate the sensors after the repair and the car knows it.

I'd never accept the car with a warning light, and I'd probably run away in any case. At the very least, the fault would have to be fixed, I'd need to see proof all repairs were done with OEM parts, and I'd want to take it to a 3rd party shop for an inspection to check the quality of the repairs.

It's about a $5k difference between this car and a new one in your area with a full warranty. At the end of the day, the risk is yours as well as the choice.

The car likes turning on yellow lights whenever a function is manually disabled - it would show the same yellow light whenever you turned the parking sensors off.

But the fact you can't turn the parking sensors on means that there is a real problem.

And you have to question the quality of the repair - if it was supposed to be repaired, why didn't they get that working? What else did they skip? Or maybe they didn't skip it, and their repair failed. Neither of which inspires confidence.

So they are reselling a 2023 that now has a salvaged title or a clean title? Seems like based on their behavior it's a salvaged title, which I suspect voids the warranty and they're trying to unload it quickly at way too high of a price. It doesn't make sense that they'd sell a nearly new car with a clean title without fixing it first.

Please let us know more details?

Whatever the case, seems super shady that the dealer is acting this way...

I turned that feature off and it shows lit up on the dash all the time. I haven't tried turning it back on, though I imagine it would.
