Anyone planning to purchase a PiP to register in Georgia should know that it qualifies as an Alternative Fueled Vehicle (AFV) for the purpose of being issued an AFV license plate. This plate allows access to HOV lanes for single occupants. It is very important that your dealer submits the Georgia title application with the proper fuel code. "O" for "Other" is the proper code and will make getting the AFV tag effortless. Your dealer may be tempted to submit "B", the code for a regular (non plug-in) Hybrid Electric Vehicle. This makes it quite difficult to straighten out, as I am now discovering. The references are on page 9 of the attached document: If you are purchasing a PHEV (such as the Chevy Volt), you must ensure that the car is registered properly by the auto dealer with the correct fuel code distinction (‘O’ for ‘Other’ or ‘F’ for ‘Flex’), which will allow the car to qualify for the AFV License Plate. (Note that the default electric/gas designator is type ‘B’ which does not allow for issuance of the AFV Plate.) and Important stipulations · Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) such as the Chevy Volt must be registered properly by the auto dealer with the correct fuel code distinction (‘O’ or ‘F’). This fuel code cannot easily be changed after the vehicle’s VIN is registered.
