This car is a welcome addition to the BEV marketplace. It will be interesting to see what the interior dimensions are. It appears to be about the same exterior size as the i-Pace which is significantly smaller than the Model X. Range also appears to be similar to the i-Pace at around 250 miles, all for $75K+. I believe that the E-Tron will be a competitor to the i-Pace more so than the model X. I am not excited about the looks of the E-tron. It looks very much like a typical ICE SUV which means very poor aerodynamics. But I also know that most consumers will be much more comfortable with familiar, conventional looks. I think Audi will sell quite a few of these cars.
everyone criticizes tesla for not selling a $35,000. model 3 yet. but when luxury car makers come out with their first bev at $75,000. they are touted as the greatest thing to ever happen to electric cars
From the article: One of the coolest new features is the E-Tron's braking system. Brakes, while incredibly important, don't usually get their due. On the new Audi, there are two braking systems. The typical friction-based system that uses brake pads, pressed against rotors to slow the vehicle down and also an electronic system that uses the two motors to slow the car down. Oh yes... Such a cool NEW feature. I also thought one of the automakers (Lexus?) just got approval for camera based side-view mirrors?
I thought the bigger deal was the idea of renting features. They use the example of cruise control. First they sell it to you. Then they charge you to use it. Next up: a charge to stop using it.
It's like they took all the good ideas of Tesla's always connected car and thought "how can we squeeze as much money as possible out of these people?" Subscriptions!
I like the idea from the standpoint that it breaks bundling, but they would have a hard time convincing me that I was really saving money by not activating those subscriptions.
It doesn't matter. The price for the hardware (all of it) is already rolled into the car. Audi is saving themselves money by streamlining production into a single vehicle. And I am sure most will be the same colour even or at least almost all black, gray, and white. They only have to make 1 car and paint it. When you start optioning and bundling it gets harder. So this saves Audi money while losing them no money. And then they can charge for an upgrade over the life of the vehicle. Even if you buy one new, and activate nothing, the second owner may activate a few of the features. That's just pure profit into Audi's pockets.
Regenerative braking, I wonder why Toyota, GM, and Tesla didn't think of that first...........oh, wait. The camera based side mirrors are a several thousand dollar option on the E-Tron. They will only be an option in Europe since they haven't been approved in the US yet.
Nice size, it's actually useful, and it's an actual luxury car, let's face it, Tesla markets sports cars, not luxury cars. 9" of clearance, impressive. Air suspension, charge docks on both sides, unfortunately a proprietary system hopefully with an adapter, a ski pass tru, seat massage, towing is ready to go. Expensive, as Audi's are, VW-Audi is the the world leader in sales of vehicles, so they realeased the top model, wondering what else is coming down the pipe.
