Has anyone attempted to add a powered subwoofer to his Gen III? If so where did you buy it, what did the modification cost and are you pleased with the result? Also is it a perfect fit and if not how did you secure it? I do not want any heavy objects moving forward in the event of a mishap. Thank You in advance for any replies.
I placed a Bass Bose 1200 in the try under the hatch. Bought it from Amazon. Was pleased until I blew it. I think that happened when I was adjusting the gain control and the internal amp was fried. They offered to fix it but it was going to cost me $$ to send from AK. So I bought an external amp which is powering it now. Sounds good, though lots of rattles. Also the volume is not quite there, which is nice to have every now and then. However (comma!), I am currently working a custom sub enclosure which will house a Hertz HZ250 10". That is going into the right hand side cubby in the rear. I have the amp secured in the tray now with the other sub. Velcro is all that is needed there.
Thank you Spiderman. One last question I hope. Is it possible to tap the oem Sat radio/cd HU to supply the audio to the sub? I really hope it is not a stoopid question.
I replaced my HU with a pioneer. The stock HU had no RCA output for sub. The only way you could do that is to tap the speaker output and run that into the high power inputs of the sub (if equipped). The only stupid question is the one not asked.
Hmm I do not especially like the idea of wire tapping the speaker outputs but I really want to keep the original HU. The only problem I have with it is lack of bass and I think the Boss 1200 that you mentioned would take care of that. I checked at Amazon and it has line level inputs so it would work. Also I am not anxious to spend the coin for a new HU. If I had money I would be driving the luxury Hyundai that the company claims is faster than a Porsche anyway.
