First Post, Just bought a 2013 Prius 2 and wanted to install an Auto Dim Mirror. Ive always been a Subaru driver and they have the harness already wired in to the headliner if you want to put one in. Does anyone know if my Prius will have the harness already wired or do you have to install that? Thanks!!
The "homelink" autodim mirror requires a switched 12v that the Prius v's without the mirror don't have wired in. Usually people have added that wire under the headliner down the driver's side post to the fuse box. There are posts available with details. I wanted the Homelink garage / gate door opener function and ended up with the autodimming in addition. I took an easier route, I just wired it up to the constant 12v that is available for the map lights. I know, it's Prius 12v blasphemy to leave a 6 ma constant draw on when parked, which is primarily the mirror's LED as measured. I use the mirror's on/off button for extended parking like airports. By the way, the Homelink function works with the switched power off even when factory installed. The attached is a compiled document including pics from several other sources along with my drawings and mashups.
Actually there is not a switched 12v up there unless the autodimming mirror came from the factory. There is a connector pin for it. Maybe you already have one on 2012 model 5 but a 2013 model 2 probably does not.
