Warranty Week is a geeky, stastical look at the warranty industry distributed to warranty professionals via email and on the web. Since the Sarbanes-Oxley implementation, manufacturers have had to report their warranty data in more detail, including the amount of money they set aside in a reserve to fund future warranty expense. The following chart lists the "big 5" auto makers and their warranty cost as a percentage of sales. This chart has, for the first time, Ford edging out GM a bit, and Daimler-Chrysler at its usual spot at the high end of the chart. Toyota and Honda are at the bottom, with a much lower warranty cost than the others. Analysis of these numbers is more difficult than the chart would suggest: [attachmentid=3862]
That's exactly why we are selling my son's Dodge Truck and why I am on my 4th brand new Toyota. And other's say I'm spending too much of premium for my car
damn, i can't imagine how much time the techs over at daimler-chrysler spend on warranty work then...
