Anyone ever thought of a way to get the backup camera on while going forward? I suppose we would have to find a way to "trick" in into thinking the car was actually in reverse. Could be interesting to see what is coming up behind you, or the plate number of that gas guzzling SUV tailgating you! Of course, you are not supposed to "watch" the screen while driving (wink, wink).
Do a search. I recently posted the wire colors going to the display, and my thoughts on how to force an override. I just haven't had a chance to try it yet. If you cut the wire going to the "REV" input to the display, and splice a diode inline, it will keep the NAV from also going into reverse operation, IMHO.
That backup camera is a pretty wide angle lens. It might not give much of a usable view once you get some distance between the camera and the vehicle behind you. I think a camera in front and a screen that appeared at very low speed for parking would be more useful.
I totally agree with you on this one, great idea!!! Would be interesting to see if someone on the forum can come up with a usable way to solve this.
If we could have a zoom lens it would be handy to tell how pissed the cops are when they are chasing you!...... Second thought, I guess this is the wrong car to run from the cops... How about check out the babe behind you in crowded traffic?
Ya, the backup camera sucks pretty bad. It's not completely worthless, just maybe 80% worthless. But it has a 100% cool factor when people see it! (as long as they don't notice how ineffective it is).
How about a digital camera attachment so you can snap a picture? Handy if some nut is really riding your bumper. You'll have proof.
