What can cause the backup camera on a 2009 to flicker and sometimes look like it's lost horizontal and vertical hold like an old CRT television, and at times the image goes completely black?

The display had been going black, whiting out, rebooting, shutting down, but it got sent off for the $300 repair to fix that.

The backup camera issues only started a while after reinstalling the display.

The usual way they fail is water intrusion. I don't know of a cure other than replacement.

If you had the MFD repaired then the only other link in the chain is the camera I've seen a few go bad Just go to a car and a junkyard grab it plug it up and see what happens if everything is good well there you go LKQ you'd probably get the camera for $20 they don't care anything about them I may have a few here.
