Picked up my 2006 Prius from Greentree Toyota in Clarksville, IN last Wednesday, and in 5 days put 250 miles on it. This morning the Check Engine light came on without any noticable issues. Took it into the local dealer service, and they tell me it's a "bad thermostat -- essentially the computer is saying that the car is taking too long to heat up". They'll have the part on Thursday, and I'll get the diagnostic code from them then. Meanwhile, I'm thinking that the coolant system issues mentioned here: http://priuschat.com/index.php?s=&showtopi...ndpost&p=264767 sound somewhat similar.
if it's taking too long to heat up means the thermostat is stuck open. Way better than stuck closed where it over heats and cooks the ICE. It happens, and that's why the car comes with a warranty.
yep, i was gonna say just what Frank did- that's why you have a warranty. most things that fail because of parts defects, etc will do so right away.
Yeah, good thing it was stuck open. WHy don't we get a temperature gauge anyway? Waiting around for a generic "check engine" light seems silly, although I suppose the billows of steam emitting from under the hood would be a clue if you're overheating.
