I was given a company vehicle a while back so now only drive my car once in a while.
Recently the 12v battery died and someone was able to get in and rummage around without breaking in.
Does anyone else know of this issue?

I know the 12v auxiliary battery dies if the car is not driven often. Have a 2013 Prius sitting for 6-8 weeks at at time. I bought a 1 amp trickle charger first. It did not have a enough output to keep the battery charged. I then bought a 4 amp charger that keeps the battery charged. I do not know how people get into car when doors locked and battery has died. I was fortunate to not have that problem the first time my auxiliary battery died.

I don't know maybe the car automatically unlocks the doors when the battery is about to die but I don't know that to be true I mean maybe your car was unlocked and you forgot and they got in a rummaged around I mean they could use a slim Jim and open the door like any regular crook would it's not it's not impervious to regular breaking and entering

Unless your’12 is DRASTICALLY different than my ‘22 the car doesn’t unlock the doors when the battery dies (it would actually take battery power to do that). So, if I am right, it means the car was left unlocked or …? Toyota warns in my manual to drive the vehicle every 2 to 3 weeks or the battery will die. On my ‘22 the smart key system shuts down after 3 to 5 days to minimize the drain on the battery and you have to use the mechanical key to open the doors.
