I was on a overnight work trip didn't get a chance to charge the car had 1mile EV range. Once I ran out ice came right on. I'm assuming EV didn't show up on HV mode due to battery being depleted. Is this correct?

What's the best way to charge up the battery on surface streets?

    1)yes

    2) you really can't to any extent. and if you try to, you'll wind up hurting your mpg's which is really the name of the game.

For number 2 I'm just driving the car at 50 mpg and try to stay in ECO
