From BBC News Cartech section: "The Quant e-Sportlimousine uses so-called “flow-cell” technology with two tanks filled with different liquid electrolytes to store energy. The liquid passes through a membrane in between the two tanks, creating an electric charge. The e-Sportlimousine emits no particulate or noxious emissions, has a claimed top speed of about 217mph and would accelerate from zero to 62mph in a Nissan GT-R Nismo-like 2.8 seconds. BBC - Autos - The month in tech: A battery-free EV? Any of our engineering types have info on "flow cells"?
It's just a battery, but with the electrolytes constantly replenished (until the liquids run out of charge). The benefit is the ability to flush the old liquids & refill with new ones in only a few minutes. (Instead of 30-40.) The drawback is lack of capacity. The car might only go 30 miles given a same-sized flow-cell & tanks.
It is an interesting technology but still too new to have a track record. Lots of announcements but not COTS. Bob Wilson
Keep in mind just how fast 217MPH is. Faster than any Porsche in a showroom today by a bunch. So until all those figures are verified by an independent observer, they are a claim by marketing. And we know about those ...
