I don't want to disable the back up beeper, but would sure love to lower the decibles a bit. If I could find and get to the actual beeber, maybe I could wrap something around it to muffel the sound a bit. Where is it and how do I get to it......??????

The OEM reverse beep comes from the amp and plays through the speakers, so no way to muffle it. Best to install a REAL beeper hooked to the reverse light and then disable the interior beeps. Download the PDF referenced in the URL above.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Aug 26 2006, 11:46 PM) </div> Sounds like a good plan. Can anyone give me an idea as to the volume of the Preso Buzzer decribed in the above URL as compared to the stock back up BEEP. I want it just audible inside the car and as a warning to those close behind. Don't need to let my nieghbors no when I leave for work.
The one I got from Radio Shack is pretty obnoxious, but it can be heard outside the car, wheras the speaker beeps couldn't be. I toned it down recently my putting a square of sound-deadening material over it, so most of the sound is directed outside. You might look in automotive catalogs or on-line for backup beepers. I noticed a delivery truck the other day that had a chime. The idea is to warn pets and pedestrians when you are stealthing backward at them. No one said it had to be annoying.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Aug 27 2006, 04:45 PM) </div> When I was in Korea they had trucks that would actually play songs when they where on reverse. An all time favorite of mine was La Cucaracha.
I've seen "horns" that will play music or even act as a public address system. I think you could upload or record into it too. So you could record, "Hey! Watch out! I'm Backing up!" and trigger the recording with the backup light. Overkill.
I now have a quiet back up beeper. followed this thread http://priuschat.com/index.php?autocom=art...owarticle&id=13 and put in the radio shack buzzer, only first I added some foam padding around the buzzer and some extra insulation to the little compartment behind the tail light. This makes a nice beep that can be heard both inside and outside the car without being to loud, and you can pad the buzzer to your own tast in noise level.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Aug 27 2006, 04:08 PM) </div> J.C. Whitney has several, including one that says (in either English or Spanish), "THIS CAR IS BACKING UP!"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant @ Aug 27 2006, 04:08 PM) </div> Now if you sing that to "La Cucaracha", you may be able to sell it for $$$
I'm backing up now! I'm backing up now! Don't you get behind my car! I'm backing up now! I'm backing up now! If I hit you, you'll go far! (sung to the tune...)
