Smart considering most of the materials are expensive and some are even ethically challenging. I’d wager that most new batteries will be manufactured with increasing amounts of recycled materials. As much as this is good, Toyota is only interested in being environmentally responsible if they can get patent rights to robustly defend, which is why hydrogen fuel cells ate up all their R&D money rather than more conventional EV design.
