For those familiar with my posts, believe it or not, I just ordered a Mini Cooper SE! It is a fairly niche product, but is the best car out there for my needs. I have wanted a smaller car for many years. Range is perfect for us as a around town errand runner. We will take the Tesla for any trips. Has anyone used CarPlay? I didn’t recall if it was available in any Toyota/Lexus vehicles.
Excellent! Any tips? They share a lot of parts with the BMW i3 (which is no longer built). Fun to drive, easy to park, little car. Surprising comfy too The voice control for the built in Nav is really out of date. My understanding is Car Play handles it much better, so is one of the first things I will do a deep dive into.
If it’s wired like my Tacoma and her NXh typically all you do is hook it up and make sure your phone is unlocked so you can approve your car as a device. Once done press the CarPlay button when it appears and you are given a list of available mostly Apple apps. You can then use the touch screen or Siri to open apps like Waze (if available) or Maps or Music. Siri works much better than Toyota’s or Lexus’ voice control native apps, it’s faster and you don’t have to train it. If it uses wireless you’ll have to join your phone to the car first. Weird thing is, I used CarPlay about 20 times before I joined my phone to the system via Bluetooth. A glaring weakness in CarPlay (in Toyota or Lexus that is) is it doesn’t support some kind of weather app. I personally would like to see a quick radar before I start out if the weather may become iffy. Weird I could do it natively in the Prime Entunes. Now I just look at the phone but it would seem better on the display or accessible via Siri. iPad ? Pro
Thank you, that is exactly the type of info I am looking for. I agree, very surprising a weather app isn't supported. I am looking forward to digging around with it
Well and wouldn’t you know it, the morning after I put in my order for the Mini, I get the FSD beta download for my Tesla
