Does anyone know the best oil to use for my 2015 TOYOTA PRIUS C ONE? Also best oil filter as well? Just bought my first car and its the Prius, also it has 23k miles on it.
Everyone has differing opinions on this. The "C" uses Synthetic & I'm a Castrol man so that's the oil. For a Filter I use one made or marketed by Mobil 1..
That's near impossible to answer. Or maybe very easy. Most any oil being sold that meets the spec in the Owner's Manual is fine. Oil filters, I haven't a clue. For what it's worth, I just head for the Toyota dealership parts department for both Toyota 0W20 oil, and the Toyota oil filter. Oh: and a replacement washer for the drain bolt. You'll need some method to safely raise the front end: Simplest/cheapest is ramps. They're effective for what they do, except no good if you're also doing brake work, taking the wheels off. Personally, ramps make me nervous. More so in the confines of a garage: too much excitement, drama. Floor jack, safety stands and wheel chocks. All of these in concert are really needed to safely raise one and/or both ends. Where I'm at now is a 3 ton jack with decently high lift (nothing fancy, was cheap as dirt on Boxing Day sale), 4 each of 3 and 6 ton safety stands, and 4 heavy rubber wheel chocks. For starters, floor jack, two 3 ton safety stands and the wheel chocks would do you. Last but not least, I like to have a big chunk of wood under the car, something thicker than my rib cage. And a cell phone. You'll also need: Ratchet wrench, long handle, swivel head makes it easier. A 3" and 6" extension, might come in handy. 3/8" size is ok, or 1/2". With the latter, get a 1/2" to 3/8" step-down, makes it more useful. Perhaps a small 1/4" ratchet too, for close quarters, small bolts. You can never have enough of these, lol. Sockets (6 face, probably 14 mm, for the drain bolt, 10 mm very likely needed to remove some small bolts for access). Might as well get a metric set? I've always bought sockets as I need them, not smart, but I got what was needed. Mostly deep socket now, seem more versatile. Lately a lot of Tekton on Amazon. A few pliers, screw drivers, pry tools. A good sized drain container of some sort, extra bottles for waste oil, rags (lots), etcetera An oil filter socket (aka oil filter wrench) Don't cheap out on this. I'd recommend Honda part number 07AAA-PLCA100, simple but effective. A torque wrench. Probably good to have both a 1/2" (more appropriate for wheel lug nuts) and a 3/8" (typically lower range, suitable for oil filter and drain bolt torques). Speaking of torque, I do NOT have Prius c Repair Manual info, but fwiw, regular 3rd gen Prius: Drain bolt: 27 (ft/lb) Oil Filter: 18 Again, just FWIW, I'll attach regular 2nd and 3rd gen Prius oil change instruction. Maybe Prius c is same instruction as second gen??
Best oil is an endless debate on the internet. Oil Best = same specs as your owner manual call for. Such as 0-20 weight and synthetic. Toyota branded is conservative, yet Mobil 1, Redline, or any other brand name such as Castrol can be consider okay. $5 - $6 a quart seems average cost. Filter Best = OEM Toyota. That rules out any debate if there is an engine failure due to the filter. Tools = as noted above especially the special filter wrench....don't cheap out. Don't forget your rubber gloves and safety glasses...truth. Have fun.
Based on EXTENSIVE long term research I have done over many many years it is Redline Oil. After that comes Motul. Toyota 0W-20 is very good also if you want something easy. Mobil 1 Ultimate is also good if you want to walk into Walmart. The BEST filter on the market that is 1 time use is Royal Purple. Others that a pretty good but not best are Mobile 1 EP and the Bosch 1 or I forget what they call it but their top filter they offer.
I’ve always used M1 0w-20 Advanced Fuel Economy Full Synthetic with a M1 Extended Performance filter or Royal Purple filter if the M1 is not available. I change it between 8,000-9,000mi just to be safe because I commute about 80mi daily in the highway.
