What is the general consensus on the best oil for higher mileage? Do most people stick with 0w20? Or do they go to some sort of 5w20? I would think that at higher miles. the Prius would start burning oil if you stuck with 0w20. Then again, I trust a Toyota engine more than most and 0w20 might be good for a long time. Any thoughts? There are some really good oil deals right now so I'm stocking up on oil. Haha.
I wouldn't stock up. Whatever grade/make you buy, down the road you're pretty guaranteed to regret. Same thing in spades for oil filters, whatever. Just buy 'em as you need. (One of the cornerstones, of a lapsed cargo cultist. )
My friend bought 4 cases of 0w 20 when it was on sale, he recently traded up to an Audi that uses a different grade oil. Now he has 4 cases of oil for his previous car SM-N900P ?
Yeah, I understand that but this is going to be my commuter car which is why I bought it new. Is there any consensus on the type of oil after 100k?
100k miles is nothing, maybe a concern after 200k. I would stick with whatever the manufacturer recommends at 100k
I think you should wait until your car gets up to that odometer reading before deciding. If the engine does not consume much oil, then stay with 0W-20. If it starts to consume oil then you could move to 5W-30 or 10W-30 depending upon ambient air temps in your area.
I have a good stock pile of oil myself. I think it's a mistake to stock up during promotions. The promotions are running all year round, no need to stock up. SM-N900P ?
some of them are better than others. i still have some of the free oil (after rebate) left. i haven't seen them lately.
note that all your choices are the same viscosity at operating temp only difference is in the cold start so this really depends only on the operating area (how cold/temperate/hot)....
