Hey ho, I've taken my '08, which I got in September '07, out on its first long (single-day) driving trip yet, over 300 miles, from the Palo Alto to Eureka, CA, and I've had my best tank yet, 50.1 MPG. The trip is sort of deceptive, because you start at and end at around sea level on US 101, but there's a *lot* of up and down, going from one watershed to another. The Ups would really drain the milage, and of course the downs would boost it back up. I'm looking to take a more coastal route back (CA 1 as much as possible), it will be interesting to see how it goes!
Eureka! This past weekend we did a shorter version of that trip to Mendocino. We got close to 50 mpg, but once we got there, a lot of short trips on the coast dropped the mileage much lower. Still, it's nice to have 3 gallons left in the tank after driving ~300 miles. If you take Highway 1, prepare to spend twice as long on the road! It's scenic, but slow.
My commute and driving in general around the Philly burbs is really hilly. Since the first day or two of finding the sweet spot, I'm getting about 50-something mpg daily. My first 100 miles, my consumption screen is at 48.0mpg. Weeee I love this car!
My best tank so far was on the second leg of my trip to Hybridfest (St Louis, MO to Madison, WI). Driving on cruise control set a couple of mph over state's speed limit (65 is the limit in Ill and WI in most places). The attached picture was taken as I was getting close to Madison. It shows 52.6 mpg at a distance traveled of 399 miles. Speedometer in upper left corner of picture shows 67 mph. Outside temp shows 82 degrees. Trip was made with AC on all the way, both ways. By the way, Hybridfest was great. You-all should try to make it next year.
