The tire pressure light came on last night and I expected that at least one of the tires would be flat by today morning but it didn't happen, they looked about the same as the day before with a visual inspection. Today at lunch brake at work I checked the tire pressure with a gage and inflated them to the pressure noted on the door panel, 36 psi on the front and 35 psi for the rest tires. I googled it too and the recommendations are 33-39 psi on the front and 32-36 psi in the back. Most of the time I don't have passengers in the car, should my target assumed to the low or high of the range for best gas mileage. I have to mention that before inflating the tires I measured 29-31 psi and I was getting average 56 mpg. The car has 85k miles in it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
First, the tire pressure alarm lights up when a tire goes down by 20% from its setting. So 29 when initially 36 would light the alarm. I run my 2020 AWDe tires at 42 front and 41 rear for maximum MPG but then live with a harsher ride. I also put the tires temporarily up by 10%, then reset the PSI sensors and then put the tires back to 42/41 so that the sensors will trigger sooner to let me know about a slow leak. JeffD
If you still have the same tire size as came from the factory, then use your own door label as the minimum. Ignore the lower ones the popped up on google, those are not for your car and equipment, unless you have upsized your tires. If best gas mileage is you only concern, then go as high as you dare. (Don't exceed the max pressure marked on the tire sidewall without understanding more issues and accepting full personal responsibility.) But higher pressures make for a harsher ride, so if you value your teeth, just stick with the door label.
