*** UPDATE: as of 11/14/2010 this vehicle has been sold. If you would like to contact the new owner, I will forward an email. Check out my Big EV! I really love this van, and it continues to serve me well, but I'm running out of parking space! I'd love to see this go to a good loving home! (I'd rather it go to a PC'er than list it on Ebay) Reasonable offers accepted, but I'm not going to give it away. I need enough to cover the occasional rent-a-truck when I need to haul something heavy. I will include the 50A charger which charges the van to 80% in under 4 hours.
pEEf, Wow! What a cool vehicle. Something like this is at the very periphery of what I want as a second vehicle; an all-electric with the enclosed internal volume to haul big, bulky/maybe a little messy stuff... you know, the stuff that is at the bottom of the pile but is necessary. The stuff you never see in "reality" TV or vehicle ads; trips to the refuse transfer station, to Home Despot, to the 2nd hand furniture store. $100K new in '94... What are you thinking pricewise now? My only problem is that this lovalbe beast is just too B-I-G. I don't think it will even fit in my driveway without blocking the sidewalk! If this were the size of a mini-van, I'd be all over this puppy, including cross-country shipping. I need something like the Ford Transit Connect BEV or Toyota RAV4 BEV. Thanks for the post. Thanks for thinking of us at PC first. Best of luck on the sale. :cheer2:
Yeah, it cost them a lot to make these vans. I got one of only several that were equipped with NiCads. The body and mechanicals are in great shape, although it could use a paint job. The lowest I'd consider is probably around $4K, as the batteries are worth that alone. I almost sold it to a friend of mine recently who was going to put a 2002 GMC van on it to "modernize" it, but his van got totalled and he changed his mind. Yeah, It's definitely big! It's 202" (close to 17 feet!) from bumper to bumper tips. It was built as a cargo van, but then Southern California Edison had it customized to haul people around as an electric demonstrator. I only have one back seat left (the other 2 were not in it when I bought it). So it will seat 5 comfortably, but you can throw a bunch more in there in "pile-in" mode. That back seat pops out, then you can haul lumber, sheetrock, cement, large rocks, etc, and even (my favorite) battery packs from other EV's.
Here is some more info about them: Electric G-Van demonstration and commercial assessment project Mine is a slightly different model, and has NiCad instead of Lead-Acid, but otherwise similar. The original Lead-Acid version only went 52mph, whereas mine will go 60. (Rev limiter starts effecting power at 55, and cuts power entirely @ 60.) Acceleration with the NiCads is also quite good, The original current limit was at 200A and mine will pull up to 300A peak. (about 60kw)
Cheap, just buy a one-way plane ticket and come out and visit us Yanks in San Francisco for a while. I know you'll have a great time! Then when you've had your fill, just drive it home!
It would probably be cheaper than the import taxes on your Enginer pack! lol Shipping is about £800 from the Eastern Seaboard to the UK or so I've heard, then you might have vat and import duties. There again, $4,000 + $3,000 shipping and tax is still not a lot for a very exclusive EV! You seriously thinking of getting it?
