I remember seeing Basie 40 years ago at Zeke's, a small jazz club in the north of Boston. We wound up at a table for two against the wall next to the band. My back and Basie's back were literally touching the whole evening, as he played the piano. He was a great guy. He had his core traveling group there with a couple of locals. Whatever happened to jazz? The media is feeding the population teenage-level rock crap these days. They have wrecked popular music.
