Hi all, I'm wondering what the small black looking boxes are called under the fenders of a gen 2 prius. Specifically, under the driver side fender (mounted onto the frame), is that some sort of sensor? I would like an official name for it because I need it replaced. Also out of curiousity, what is the black box under the passenger fender? This one does not have any wires connected to it. Thanks
On the front drivers side there is a big thermos flask. The car stores hot radiator fluid in it and uses it to get up to operating temperature quicker the next day. I believe that is the main item in picture #1. With picture 2, is that front or back? What angle am I looking at this from?
The one on the passenger side is a bumper, you don't really need it (at least I didn't put it in on my car, but now I now where it goes!) On the drivers side, I think you are referring to the device with the wires above the thermos bottle? I don't remember seeing that on my car.
Those are vibration dampers. Little structures of rubber and iron, designed to absorb various resonances parts of the body and suspension could set up. There's a really one in the back hatch; there's a picture of it in my logos page-set. There are more of them attached to the engine mounts. . _H*
