Black Painted Wheel Painted my A3 wheels over the weekend. The color I used is black night metallic. Also installed HID kit. I am thinking to paint the Prius wheels white but not sure how it will turn out. Any thoughts?
Not sure how white wheels will look on a blue car... I think if you go white, you should paint them a matte white. Or go gold, maybe bronze. I think those two colors will match the blue.
I should have read this post before commenting on another. I asked if it's possible to get the rims powder coated (black.gun metal)instead? Is it even possible and how much would something like that cost? not sure about white either.
I'll try to get a picture later on tonight. I was a bit disappointed with the color... didn't quite come across as metallic as I wanted, so... well, I'll let you be the judge of it when I upload the pict.
That's a tough paint. I used that silver metallic (basically clear with silver flecks in it), over a silver base for door hardware in my old house, and it took a beating and help up well.
FWIW, I powder coated my Gen II Touring wheels. They aren't black... but then neither is Amapola. A three-coat treatment; base, metalflake, and clear topcoat. IIRC ~$600 including stripping OEM finish to bare metal, Scotchbright finish at rim's edge, and masking rim for base and metalflake coats, removed for top coat.
"Extreme?" I'd say only to the extent that the treatment is different from the current industry wheel treatment default; clear coated alloy or silver. I see black cars with black rims quite often and white cars with white rims on occasion. So, color matching isn't too far out there. More on my reasoning here. As to the brakes. The drums on the rear are OEM black. If I were to do anything else, I'd paint the front brake calipers black to de-emphasize them. To do it right, they'd have to come off and that might mean bleeding the brake lines which I've read can be difficult for a non- mechanical type like me. Since I had my wheels done a little over a year ago, I've seen four other cars with red painted wheels, two of the cars were silver, one black, and one white. And just the other day I saw a blue Ford Focus with white wheels. Now that is bordering on the "extreme." There's no accounting for someone's taste or sense of style is there?
