Yes I've torn mine down I wasn't real happy with the oil control rings I didn't really mess with the compression rings just looked I still have the Pistons they're still perfect the score marks on the thrust sides are still perfect No damage except for the one that the rod broke on of course it's no good but everything else internally looked really clean The crank is amazingly clean The cams look good everything even with 10,000 mi oil changes was still pretty much silver even the valleys and ways in the head where the oil always cokes and acts funny not so much pretty clean just the center section the reciprocating mass The rattling of the engine puts a stress on the back side facing the firewall of the engine that starts to erupt and crack and then everything obviously fails or that number one it looks like is the one that will usually go but you never know I never saw this in non- Atkinson one and or two Z I saw some heavy oil consumption in a one z I owned it.
I guess the head gasket stuck to the head when he lifted it off? Never to be seen. Largely pointless, unless you like inane chatter.
