A fairly large chunk of blown tire found my Prius on the freeway today as I'm heading to the airport for a trip, and I couldn't swerve out of the way fast enough. I checked for damage and found that the tire has left black marks and minor scratches on the passenger side just below the bumper, does anybody know what I can use to remove the marks and scratches? I'll post a pic of it when I get back. Arrgh this makes me mad as I bought my car on the 14th.

I had a large piece hit my little white geo metro, my pre-prius car, smack in the nose. I got nasty black marks along the hood, big dents, and all the glass taken out of the drivers side mirror as it whipped around. I used Goo-Gone to get rid of the majority of the marks. Goo-gone is sold as an adhesive remover. This was on a metal part, with paint I didn't care much about, though. If you try it, definitely try it out first on a non-visible and very small part made of the same material as the marked part. Even this wasn't able to get all of the mark off. It seemed to have melded into the paint. It did a good enough job though.

    Some other options:
Simple Green is an automotive degreaser. It is more likely to be paint-friendly and has the benefit of being completly non-toxic. I don't know if it is up to rubber marks, but might be worth a try.

Clay barring might be applicable. I've never used one, so try to find an experianced auto detailer and see if they have used it in this way.

I had this very thing happen to my 04 but it was a slab of semi tire! It hit the front right section on the hood, bumper, lowergrill, bumper & fog light. black marred paint, scratches and broken lower grill. :(

I had a friend that used a clay bar on the damaged area WOW what a difference! the only noticable trait left was the small ding by the fog light.... Everything else looks brand new.. Looking back Im glad it missed the headlight housing....

Barbeque season is starting (depends on where you live, I guess). Try a little drop of charcoal lighter fluid on a soft cloth and rub very lightly.
