On the way home from work tonight, a BMW i8 drove by in the left lane on the Parkway. I guess he saw his exit coming up, so he worked across five lanes to get to it. It's a nice car, so when I wound up next to him, I gave the guy a thumbs up. He looks at me, turns his head back and heads towards the ramp.
I've seen an i8 three times now. It looks especially nice at night with its distinctive tail lights and DRLs.
Next time you see him, ask him how much, and if he says "more then you can afford" smoke him! RIP Buster!!
BMW in Costa Mesa area always seems to have several on their lot. i8's do look sporty - but for $140k one could do a lot more bang for their buck. Combine the hp of the little 3 banger ICE, along with the hp from the electric motor & all you got is ~ 350hp. If you're on a budget or you're simply a smarter shopper, you could save over $30k and get seating for 3 more adults than the i8, plus DOUBLE the hp by simply buying a model S. Even though it's over ½ton heavier - the S will totally eat the i8's lunch. after forking over that much dough, one would hope for more umph than your entry level Porsche or corvette .
you can say that again.....sleeper as in boring....sorry that's my opinion, Tesla does nothing for me.
No need to apologize - Tesla already has over 2 billion miles under its belt & outsells Mercedes S class as well as BMW's 7 series .... their US made, 'boring' models are doing ok without winning over everyone .... tastes vary .... and often change with time. .
Plenty of i8s here; more than i3s! Side note, I saw a Fisker Karma yesterday. I wonder if it's the same owner (it's the same colour from when I saw my first Karma several years ago)
