Thinking about changing the brake fluid in the next few months.

    1) Is DOT3 or DOT4 preferred?
    2) How much is needed? Bottles seem to come in mostly 12oz. Toyota OEM is almost same price as generic ones.

    3) How does this process look, adapted from (2001 prius brake problem. Pedal goes to floor. | PriusChat
    1. remove old brake fluid from reservoir with pump/syringe up to the level where the hose out is so no air gets in
    2. fill with new brake fluid
    3. jack up car
    4. remove all tires
    5. turn car Ignition On
    6. have someone push pedal down and hold at 1/5 to floor
    7. start with right rear tire.
    8. remove brake line to brake caliper
    9. attach vinyl tube and open valve
    10. drain out old fluid
    11. close valve
    12. have someone release the pedal
    13. repeat from step 7 with left rear, then right front and left front

I usually buy the tall bottle of the prestone dot for It can mix with three and so far all of my Prius the test strip show the brake fluid's great so I pretty much left it I want to convert one to an alternative brake fluid I just haven't gotten around to it yet I might never but I'd like to give it a whirl I have the same brake fluid in the Corolla working great for 25 years.

Follow the manual and use DOT 3, there is no benefit to using DOT 4.
