hi all, i had my 2010 prius serviced today to take care of an annoying brake squeak. turns out my front brake rotors were glazed over, with a shiny surface, which was what was causing the squeak. my car has only 3500 miles on it and the service guys were stumped as to why the rotors were so shiny. they've never seen this before. has anyone else experienced this? thanks! :kali:
Brake squeaks caused by glazed rotors is fairly common when a car's brakes aren't "stretched" often enough. Due to the regenerative braking on the Prius, I wouldn't be surprised if it's fairly common. I've had brake squeaks on previous cars, and the solution was to get on the highway and do a few hard stop cycles to burn the glaze off the rotors.
Just get up to 80mph, slam on the brakes hard, go back up to 80 and do it to point where your pedal become soft. When the brakes are hot, just drive for 10 minutes and cool down the brakes and you will be all set
