Parked for about an hour in NYC, get into car and seat pulled all the way forward. Is capturing my fob signal really a thing? Seems like such a boring, unprofitable pastime just standing on a street corner waiting for a crappy, old prius (mine is 06), perpetrating the break-in with no hope of stealing the car, and maybe lifting a cell phone charger. Or is it just for sport? Any thoughts on the methods and motives of prius invaders?
No, and for the record, also happened recently in Queens. High beam stalk pulled. and headlight switch turned on. Weird.
Capturing FOB signals was briefly a thing in late 1990' and early 2000's, but then everyone switched to more secure methods... Smash and grab is the preferred method in the big city. So if they don't see anything they can grab, they likely won't smash... Perhaps you moved the seat position and forgot you did? Or maybe you're unlocking car and thinking you were actually locking it?
