It seems like there are a few instances where the HSI doesn't really act like it does the rest of the time. The first case is going from EV to HV during that warm up period. Another is when you are out of EV range but the HV battery shows full bars. The HSI seems to jump around a lot more and not necessarily follow what your foot is doing. It's perfect the rest of the time. Anyone else seen these bugs?

I've never noticed anything unusual. When it's running out of EV, the little battery does a fast countdown in 10ths until it switches to HV. Is that what you're talking about?

perhaps as the ice winds up in S1, it affects the hsi power indicator bar?

Ya, something similar to this. I just don't know how to explain it. All I know is it doesn't respond to your foot the same way it does at other times, and can even be laggy.

With an aftermarket device, watch the RPM of the engine. It will show you why the behavior is different during warm-up. The instant MPG gauge gives a clue what's happening too.

You're drawing more electricity from the battery-pack, despite the engine running. That's what we've been calling EV-BOOST mode.

The same thing happens while driving faster than 62 mph.

Want to see something really bizarre, watch what happens when driving in sub-zero temps, like at -10°F. The response is different then too.
