“Robert” - my first name from my Dad’s brother who died in the Army Air Corps. “John” - middle name after my Mom’s brother, a former Marine, who retired and lived a full life. “Elmer” - my Mom’s Dad who died in the Phillipines. Dad and Mom’s ashes are in Arlington. Dad was a B-29 tail gunner with orders to the Pacific. Later, he was a line company commander of an integrated company in Korea, Purple Heart and Silver Star. Mom had a call from a blue haired woman that, “We pay our colored help $0.65 per hour.” Mom kept paying $0.75 per hour and later helped our $0.75 per hour, house keeper, Kate and her family, to leave that small minded town. Kate kept our house together including Doctor Dad and Mom's five sons, the youngest two pre-kindergarden, while Mom got her first degree in accounting. Mom and Dad sponsored a Vietnamese refugee family and Dad actively recruited foreign doctors to help in and eventually take over his practice in a small, Kansas town. We learned early that native born doctors can often be less 'effective' than foreign doctors who are grateful to be in America. Bob Wilson
