OK folks, not a great day for my 2012 Pius 4. I was cursing along and noticed the check engine light came on didn't think to much of it. I stopped a store and parked car seemed OK. I started heading up a mountain an noticed I was starting to loose speed. The engine sounded like it was working hard but not getting me any ware. I noticed it seems ok unless I smash the peddle, then it is sluggish. It does not feel like its missing. I pulled the codes and not to much help. Any ideas? This car has 280,000 miles on it. I did have the transfluid changed around 120,000 was getting ready to do it again. I also noticed I cooled vent valve released some fluid and now I am 2 inches down from where the engine fluid was. I checked the dip stick and did not see any milky residue indicating a head gasket failure? I am not sure how to proceed on this one.
You actually have to look up the codes and they will tell you where to troubleshoot, pulling it the codes and drive again won't do much in this situation.
I was having little luck with finding them. I looked again this morning and this is what I am finding. These don't seem to be common codes and I am having trouble making sure they are the correct code translations for the Prius. back to business: i think you need a leakdown test for the head gasket, or just continue to monitor the coolant and oil. tech stream would give relevant codes, available at dealership unless you want to diy
Loss of focus. I've seen remnants first hand of that. He'll pick up the pieces and meet your standards next time.
Is it possible that your coolant pump/water pump or inverter coolant pump failed? That's what it sounds like to me. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on the codes you posted, but it sounds to me like your code reader is not pulling Toyota-specific codes. Instead it's giving you generic codes, which may not give you much information. If you can get access to a better reader or Techstream, that might help you get more information. Maybe take the car to a shop and ask them to get you the codes.
