I saw a Gen II Prius with California HOV stickers this morning. How can that be? I thought the stickers stayed with the car for life, and there are no more stickers availible. The only thing I can think is that the guy claimed someone stole his stickers on his old car, then stuck the replacements on his new car. What do you think?
No, they're transferable if your previous HOV-stickered hybrid is totaled. I've seen a couple myself.

mainliner beat me to it. Yes, they will expire in Jan 1, 2011 and cannot be renewed. That's the wonderful state of CA wanting to make money as they turn certain freeway HOV lanes (like the newly expanded 10 freeway carpool lanes, between the 605 and into downtown) into toll lanes . I've also seen a few GIII's with the HOV sticker on, but then I also know of people who just run 'fake' ones and risk it (and have also not gotten pulled over for it) and drive with them anyways. However, I'm not saying you should do that, but just saying it happens.
