California Plug_in Legislative Initiatives Update

Here is recent mailing from Plug In America re: California PHEV/EV initiatives. I joined Plug In America this year for $25 hoping to find some synergy between hybrid and PHEV interests. We really have no organization fighting for hybrids. Anyway here are some CA-specific legislative activities.

Over the last two weeks the California Legislature has sent an unprecedented six plug-in electric vehicle bills to Governor Jerry Brown's desk. Now we need your help in getting them over the finish line. What Plug In America has accomplished during this legislative session, working with a variety of coalitions and partners, sets an impressive new standard for making the state of California more EV friendly. It also helps create a framework we can leverage in other states and at the Federal level. What happens in California with EVs will spread to the rest of the country, so please make your voice heard to Governor Brown.

The bills include:
SB286 & AB266 - Extension of HOV access for plug-ins until 12/31/18 - a critical EV market incentive and extremely important for improving California's air quality
SB359 - Saves the CA CVRP Rebate Program and provides additional funding to last through June 2014
SB454 - EV Open Access - Charge at any paid charging station with a credit card, and know the price you'll pay
AB1092 - EV Building Standards - Moves the process forward for EV charging to be included in CA building code
AB8 - $2 billion for long-term state alternative fuels funding, including significant funding for EV related projects

Please urge Governor Brown to sign all six bills. Even better, ask him to sign them on National Plug In Day to show his support for all of the EV consumers who are plugging in!

Please use this link to contact the Governor to let him know you want all of these bills to become law. You can also take the opportunity to inform your state legislators that this is happening and that you would like to see legislation that supports EVs in your state.

The California Air Resources Board announced yesterday that an additional $72.5 million in funding will be set aside to clean up the state’s fleet of automobiles. The majority ($44.5 million) of the funds will go directly into the state’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which provides “individuals, nonprofits, government entities and businesses a rebate of up to $2,500 on a first-come, first-served basis.”
