CA To Require New Buildings To Be Prepped For Electric-Car Charging Stations So, what's your opinion? Obvious evolution of electric car infrastructure, or government getting in the way and adding unneeded expense? Keep in mind that this only applies to new buildings going up, not for ones that are already in place. I'd imagine putting the installation in for an electric charging station while you're putting the building up would make it easier and cheaper in the long run than installing it afterwards.
...California/CARB has pledged to do "what it takes" to make EV option viable in CA. So they just gotta look for ways to prepapre the state for a sizeable population of EV's and plug-ins. Whether or not the specfics of the proposed bill makes sense, generically it makes sense to plan ahead.
Doing this is pretty cheap compared to a lot of the california building codes. They just are requiring the wiring and power box for charging stations. The utility here is encouraging all new homes and offices to do the same thing, but its a recommendation not a requirement.
It's great. Every building should have at least an outlet that is available to use. The paradigm shift of fueling at fuel-stations to fueling at your destination will take a long time. I had to fill up the Prius yesterday, first time in a while. Don't miss it at all. I much prefer the couple seconds it takes to plug in the Leaf.
