As the title says, is there a heated front screen mod available for a prius, to stop the screen from fogging and having to put on heater to defog. Thanks fro your input. Anthony
Um, front screen? Do you mean the MFD display? Not sure what exactly your talking about? Windshield? Try to explain your situation differently...
sorry for not making it clear. In the UK we call the windsheild the windscreen, so yes, can the Gen2 prius be modified to get a heated front windsheild, and wire it to a seperate fuse and switch, to help in the winter with the quick defrost of the front window / windsheild, and it would also help with the defrosting on the front window / windsheild when its wet to help not use the car heater as much hence run the ice less, with using less fuel. As most of my journeys are short, by the time the ice a=has warmed up enough to get hot air from the heater my journey has ended. I can then make most of that journey on the phev kit with little ice usage. Many thanks, Anthony.
Anthony, I do not know of a heated screen for the Prius (Windshield) but must admit it would be very useful. I have one on my MGB and many years ago had one on a Rover 3.5 ltr coupe. You can however fit heated mirrors without to much difficulty, something sadly lacking in the UK gen2 Prius. John (Britprius)
Haven't heard of a heated windshield as a direct replacement for the Prius Windshield. Or really any DIY configuration. Although - There is this 1 option for keeping ice buildup down: Heated Frameless Windshield Wiper Blade Kit This heated Windshield Wiper uses a revolutionary frameless metal blade that conducts heat tip to tip and allows absolutely no ice build up in the tips or throughout the blade. The frameless design provides continuous even pressure to the windshield, reducing streaks and reduces wind lift up to 150MPH it is also very simple to install, just plug them in to your 12volt power source or cigarette lighter. Wiper Blades are solad as a pair and include an installation kit. Blades are available from 16" to 28". Kit Includes: 2 Heated Windshield Wiper Blades (Select Sizes Below) and 1 Installation kit. However this won't help keep the shield from fogging over. Sorry. You may want to look into a solution to apply to the windshield - there are several brands available - most and any autoparts store.
Thanks for those replies lads, its unfortunate the japs didnt realise the usefullness of a heated windsheild. The anti fogging solution looks good though, havent come across that before. I think the fogging is coming from water getting into the boot load area, had to drill holes in both sides of the load area (just behind the aux battery and the same on opposite sides. The aux battery area was 1/2 full of water, with rain water adding to that every time it rained, and it does rain alot in south wales lol. That is soted now, as soon as it gets in it draines out. Check foam pads behind rear lights are ok as water can enter there. But some have found small cracks in the welde joints near the tailgate hinges. John (Britprius)

This may sound crazy but it works. Cut a potato in two and rub the cut surface on the inside of the screen. Does the job well and when the effect wares off slice a little off the potato and use again. John (Britprius)
Yes but the heating element is sandwiched between the two layers of glass that make up laminated windscreens. The heating wires are finer than a human hair so do not obstruct vision but can be seen if you look closely and being between the layers of glass do not get damaged when the glass is being cleaned. Guess it's OK for the car not to be from India or Spain I'd be interested in stopping the leakage (aux battery area) to prevent the moisture on the inside of the windshield, and the associated mold forming.
that's pretty cool! would be great for us pippers who drive much of the winter without heat. windscreen fogging is the biggest issue.
We just have to confirm if Ricky Evans motorsport, heated windscreen will provide all the necessary wiring/switches.. so that's why I would like us to get together as group.. (as far as I know, it would be the same as Ford quickclear screen
Methinks Automotive manufacturers probably think it best and cheaper just to direct peripherally created warm air onto the the glass through vents. The idea of "wired" front windshields is interesting. But if you got crack or needed replacement I shudder to think of the additional cost. I think I'm happy just pressing the defrost button.
This depends on the situation. Ok I agree some are a little over the top, but in the 60's I had a Rover 3500 coupe that had such a heated front screen. On frosty mornings "something we get plenty of in the UK" it was great just to turn the ignition on starting the car and the screen would be defrosted in seconds. No waiting for the engine to warm up to get enough heat to the screen before it would clear slowly from the bottom up. It also meant that any heat produced from the heater could be vented towards the driver and passenger and not needed for the screen. It worked much quicker than to days rear screen systems because the heating elements were much finer and more evenly spread also were possibly of higher wattage. If left turned on in the winter it had an auto turn off after a short time but could be refreshed by touching the button. With to days technology it should not be expensive to produce a heated screen with plastics that conduct electricity the laminate between the glass could be heated by passing a current through it no need for filament wires and could even be current limiting dependent on temperature. Would I like one on the Prius the answer is yes but on the UK gen2 we do not get even heated mirrors something I have fitted. John (Britprius)
