On the Gen II, I made a lot of use of the diagram of the car with moving colored lines showing where current was coming from and going to.

We have a similar diagram on the Gen III, but its usefullness is fairly poor because I cannot, at a glance, tell what it shows. The worst is the faint red color for power from the ICE, which I cannot pick-up at a glance from my [old] eyes.

I've read the manual, and fear I know the answer.

But, I'll ask anyway --- is there any way to change the colors on that display?

Sorry but no, there is not.

Many have expressed the same concerns you have about the display which is vacuum fluorescent. Toyota I am sure has read the concerns but I doubt we'll see it change in the near future.

Not on the Gen 3. Your better bet is to use the instant MPG meter.
